About Us


Benchmark Land Surveying, Inc. was established in 2009 when the John Day and Baker City branches of the firm Bagett, Griffith and Blackman, Inc. were purchased by Mike Springer and Jason Hatfield. Mike and Jason were former employees of Bagett, Griffith and Blackman for 11 years and 6 years, respectively. The John Day office has a history of providing quality service to Grant, Gilliam and Wheeler Counties since 1967. Our Baker City office was established in 2008 with the purpose of serving our valued clients in Baker County.


Michael C. Springer, PLS

Mike has over 11 years of experience in the field of land surveying in Eastern Oregon. Mike obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Land Surveying from the Oregon Institute of Technology in 1998. He became an employee and a partner of the firm Bagett, Griffith and Blackman, Inc., and was there until the purchase of the John Day and Baker City offices in January of 2009. Mike is a member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon, and was elected as the Grant County Surveyor in 2008.

Away from the office, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife Shannon and children Nicholas and Emily. He enjoys traditional archery, hunting, Tae Kwon Do and biking.

Jason Hatfield, PLS

Jason has over 6 years of experience in the field of land surveying. Jason holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Forest Resources Technology from C.O.C.C. and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering from Oregon State University. He began his surveying career in 2002 with the John Day office of the firm Bagett, Griffith and Blackman, Inc., and left the company in 2005. From 2005 to 2006 he worked for the Washington Department of Natural Resources as a Forest Engineer. In 2006 he returned to his former position with Bagett, Griffith and Blackman, and remained with the company until the purchase of the John Day and Baker City offices in January of 2009. Jason is a member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon and the Council on Forest Engineering.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys hunting, shooting, hiking, camping, skiing and riding his motorcycle.
